Here's what NCCE - National College for Care and Education say about their course...

What do I get?

  • This advanced Early Years Neuroscience course is broken into 3 6-week blocks, plus an on-going research project, as follows. Blocks are independent from one another, and your starting "block" will vary depending upon when you enrol with the college. Block 1: The aim of this unit is to provide an in-depth understanding of neuroscience in early years. Block 2: The aim of this unit is to understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on the stress response system of children and the nurturing role of the adult in supporting self-regulation through co- regulation. Block 3: The aim of this unit is to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary thinking and research from the neurosciences and acquire a critical insight into this thinking and research in understanding child development from birth to seven years. Research Project: The aim of this unit is to implement neuroscience-informed change through practitioner-led enquiry within own setting. This will be achieved through a small-scale research project. Learners will be introduced to research, and the role of ethics when undertaking research. The theme selected will allow learners to reflect on practice, use current research to produce recommendations for improvements to own setting, implement these recommendations and summarise findings. This will run for the duration of your course and is it's own separate block.

What do I need?

  • To complete this qualification, you must be employed, or have access to a placement for the duration of the course, (full time is not necessary, but a minimum of one day a week is required) within the Early Years sector, working in an Ofsted registered setting with children aged from birth to 5. Please note, after school clubs and toddler groups are not appropriate for this qualification.
